Acquired in 1502 by René de Cossé, first Lord of Brissac, it is today the residence of the 13th Duke of Brissac. Whilst the park offers magnificent views from the shaded century old trees, the visit reveals a dazzling décor. You will notice stunning ceilings, precious furniture and a ravishing theatre Belle Époque, dedicated to Opera. In the Golden Drawing Room, many family souvenirs are on display, including beautiful “Don Quichotte” tapestries... Brissac is a family castle ruled by tradition, in which each generation transmits its heritage with love and respect. In the main Dining room the table is laid, as if evening to come, several of the Duke’s in the guest are to dine. Following King Louis XIII’s footsteps (who came to Brissac in August 1620) you discover historical bedrooms, portrait galleries, the chapel, and the private theatre. The unique private opera house seating 200 persons, constructed by Jeanne Say, Marquise de Brissac, a recognised Melomaniac at the end of the 19th century. The visit leads you to the wine cellars of the castle where the various
wines of the property may be tasted. “Anjou Villages Brissac”
and “Rosé d’Anjou” mature peacefully within the
vaulted walls of stone. |
